Spiders
Britain has more than 600 species of spiders, all of them harmless to man. Most arachnids (spiders) are predatory, feeding mainly on insects and they are extremely beneficial invertebrates, especially in the garden. Sadly, millions of perfectly rational people are terrified of spiders, so we must provide the most effective means of removal without resorting to killing the spiders. The best means of removal is containment and release.
Your Questions Answered
Q.
I have an infestation of Steatoda Nobilis around my front door. Are your repellent products effective against these spiders as unlike your "how to control" statement, these spiders do offer a significant risk.
A.
Yes, they are nasty biters but I did not include them because I don't want folk to think spiders are bad because it is only the occasional imports like those that cause a problem. Deterrents are no use for spiders so you need to look at products to eliminate them. I would go for something non-toxic first like the Oa2ki spray and/or powder.
Q.
My loft space is completely infested with spiders. I live in Southern Ireland and the loft is full and I cannot get rid of them I have tried brushing them out and hoovering them. They keep coming into every room in the house which we hoover every week all corners.
A.
A quick, cheap and effective solution is to use permethrin smoke fumers - either Coopex Mini Fumers or Fortefog Midi Fumers depending on the volume of the loft. Caution: Don't use fumers if there are bats in the loft. Also, place the fumers on a 300mm x 300mm sheet of cooking foil prior to lighting. Light the one furthest from the escape hatch first and work back towards the escape hatch. Leave for 24 hours. All spiders within the loft should be eliminated.
