Why do we get bed bugs?

Don’ let the bed bugs bite!…….As you would expect bed bugs are often found around beds and sleeping areas, but they are happy to live anywhere they can find the sustenance they need. They are attracted to and feed on warm-blooded animals to survive, this can be either humans or animals. Bed bugs are so called because, although they are not exclusively nocturnal, they are mainly active at night and while we sleep we provide a constant supply of blood for them. And, beds with their seams and crevices provide a perfect hiding place. However, it is possible to have bed bug problems outside of the bedroom. Any place that humans sit, rest or sleep can be a place of interest for bed bugs.

How do bed bugs spread?

The spread of the bed bug is proving to be a very big problem. Knowing how they get around is key to avoiding a bed bug infestation in your home. They are primarily transported by humans, and in human belongings, like suitcases. Hotel chains are spending small fortunes dealing with bed bugs and with so many people coming and going, hotels are a classic place to pick them up. They are also easily transported in second hand furniture, so beware. Bed bugs tend to move to other areas once they are disturbed. When you first identify a bed bug issue make sure to apply the most effective product as mentioned at the bottom of this article. What do our pest experts say is the best way to remove bed bugs?

Bed bugs are notoriously difficult to eliminate even for the seasoned professional, but with the right preparation and thoroughness we have everything you need to successfully remove your bed bug problem. The first step we would recommend you to take is:

  • Methodically prepare the room by stripping the bed and bagging up the linen for laundering. Thoroughly vacuum the mattress, floor and any other soft furnishings.
  • Dismantle the bed, bedside cabinet and any other items of furniture where bed bugs would be likely to be hiding.
  • Once this is prepared use our range of bed bug products to treat the room. We recommend a combination of products. For example, use smoke bombs to kill any exposed bugs, insecticidal spray for the carpets, mattress and other soft furnishings and insecticidal powder for treating bedframes, wardrobes, skirtings etc.
