Azamethiphos is an organophosphorus insecticide which acts by inhibition of cholinesterase activity.
As a pesticide, it is used to control flies and cockroaches in buildings, stores and warehouses. Azamethiphos is moderately toxic to mammals and highly toxic to birds and aquatic species. Extreme care is required when azamethiphos is used in fish farming, as a slight to moderate overdosing can harm or kill the fish.
