Mosquitos can be a real pest over the summer months, particularly on warm summer evenings when you want to enjoy being outside. They love warm damp conditions. Bites are irritating and itchy, some have an adverse reaction to them and scratching can lead to secondary infections. They are particularly prevalant at dawn and dusk when they go in search of a blood meal. They are attracted to bright colours, body heat, body odour and exhaled carbon dioxide
Any regular fly spray or sticky fly papers work well to combat mosquitos, as do smoke bombs, but they look for standing water to lay their eggs. The removal of water in vases, plant pots, watering cans, pet bowls and paddling pools will help, as will covering water butts and removing blockages from guttering.
